HomeGuidesWho Covers the Map

A dozen crews quietly cover most of North Jersey's gutters

The finding: across 94 gutter companies in 31 North Jersey towns, just 12 firms appear in three or more towns — and those 12 fill 41% of every ranked slot on our lists. One (Stern Gutters) turns up in 10 towns. Meanwhile 78% of companies work a single town. The search results look crowded; the map is covered by a small core.

The map is smaller than the search results feel

Search "gutter company near me" across Bergen, Essex, Morris and Passaic and you'll see dozens of names — a different set in every town. It feels like an endless field of companies. But when we tracked which of our 94 ranked firms show up across which of our 31 town lists, the coverage collapsed onto a handful of crews. Twelve companies carry three or more towns; between them they occupy 64 of the 155 ranked slots on the whole site.

Nine of the twelve are dedicated gutter specialists; three are roofers who cover a lot of ground. Most cluster geographically — Stern runs an Essex-and-Morris spine (Livingston, Maplewood, West Orange, Verona, Madison, Florham Park), while a Passaic-lakes cluster (Storm Guard, Gutter Solutions, NJ Home Maintenance) follows the Ringwood–Pompton Lakes–Hawthorne corridor. These are the crews with the routes to cover a county.

The most widespread isn't the most famous

Here's the twist. The company on the most town lists — Stern Gutters, in 10 — has just ~246 reviews. The company with the most reviews by a mile — Ned Stevens, at ~4,864 — appears on only three of our lists. Widest coverage and biggest reputation are two different things, held by two different companies.

That's worth sitting with, because homeowners tend to assume the name they've seen everywhere is the one that's actually everywhere. Coverage is a story about routes and crews; review volume is a story about size and marketing (we pulled that one apart in who owns NJ's gutter reviews). A quiet 4.9-star specialist can out-cover a national franchise while barely registering in the review count.

78% of companies work a single town

Flip the lens and the market's real shape appears: of the 94 companies, 73 (78%) show up in just one town, and another 9 in two. Only that dozen span three or more. North Jersey gutters is a long tail of local one- and two-truck shops, with a thin layer of regional crews stretched across the top.

For a homeowner that's genuinely good news. In most towns your best-rated option is a local specialist who lives 10 minutes away, not a call center — the kind of shop whose reviews are all gutters and whose truck you'll actually see again next fall. The regional crews are there when you need scale or fast availability; the one-town specialists are there when you want someone whose whole business is your neighborhood.

What this means when you're hiring

Figures are from public Google data across 94 companies in 31 North Jersey towns (Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic), pulled July 2026. "Coverage" counts the town lists a company appears on; counts and ratings drift as we re-pull and re-rank. Company names shown as listed on Google.

FAQ

Who are the biggest gutter companies in North Jersey by coverage?

By how many towns they serve — not by review count — the widest-covering firms in our data are Stern Gutters (10 of our 31 towns), Spotless Gutter Cleaning & Repair (8), and then Storm Guard, NJ Home Maintenance Services and Seamless Gutter Services (6 each). Coverage reflects routes and crews, not necessarily quality.

Does a company serving many towns mean it is better?

No. Broad coverage tells you a firm has the trucks, crews and tenure to run a regional route — useful for availability, but not a quality signal. The most widely-covering firm in our data (Stern, 10 towns) sits at 4.9 stars on 246 reviews, while the single most-reviewed company (Ned Stevens, ~4,864 reviews) appears in only three of our towns. Coverage and reputation are different axes — judge a company on rating, recency and gutter focus.

Are most New Jersey gutter companies local one-town shops?

Overwhelmingly, yes. Of the 94 companies across our 31 town lists, 73 (78%) appear in just one town and another 9 in two. Only 12 span three or more. The market is a long tail of local specialists with a small core of regional crews layered on top.

How did you measure town coverage?

We counted, for each of the 94 gutter companies in our rankings, how many of our 31 town lists (across Bergen, Essex, Morris and Passaic counties) it appears on, using public Google data pulled July 2026. A company "covers" a town if it ranks among that town's vetted gutter providers. Counts drift as we re-pull and re-rank.
